The Tutorpedia Foundation is committed to providing the best tutoring services to as many students as possible. In order to accomplish this goal, we have launched the Tutorpedia Scholarship Program. Students apply to receive one year of free tutoring – approximately 35 hours of 1-1 academic support. Students can get help with homework, test preparation, study skills, and organizational strategies. Students and tutors can also create projects together to reinforce content and critical thinking skills. All of our tutoring is aligned with California State Standards, and our pedagogy is grounded in the latest cognitive research about how people learn best. Most importantly, all tutoring is student-centered: our tutors focus each session on the individual needs and goals of each student.

While raising grades and test scores are common goals of the tutoring experience, they are not the only goals. Tutorpedia’s tutors do more than give homework help; we emphasize the intrinsic value of education and help students find meaning and relevance in learning for the sake of learning. We believe that if students are focused on the journey of learning, rather than the end product, improved grades, test scores, and college acceptance letters will naturally follow.

To be eligible for a Tutorpedia Scholarship, students must:

  1. Demonstrate an academic need for tutoring (either by their latest report card, teacher recommendation, or STAR scores)
  2. Demonstrate a financial need for free tutoring (either by verification of financial aid or receiving free/reduced lunch)
  3. Complete the Scholarship Application Form.
  4. Write an essay answering the question: Why do you want a tutor?
  5. Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or principal.
  6. Provide a letter of recommendation from a parent/guardian.
  7. Be able to commit to approximately one hour every week to tutoring from October to June (three unexcused absences will result in the revocation of your scholarship).
